Where We Went in Alaska

What We Learned in Alaska

What we learned in Alaska is that there are two types of water birds -- dabblers and divers. I'm a dabbler, so that's what you'll get with this blog. If you want to see the complete published works of this trip, please stay in touch with the diver in the family.

What We Did In Alaska

We hiked, kayaked and did a ton of sightseeing from our most excellent "boat" and mostly got pretty pampered. Hey, we're worth it.

What We Saw In Alaska

Well, we visited some hot springs; visited one town with a population of 50 and one town with a population of Kristine; saw a ton of wildlife -- a lot of tons when you considered we were in Frederick Sound, the world's largest collection of humpback whales, and we had as many as a dozen around us at once. Bears, sea lions and eagles aplenty, waterfalls galore and gorgeous scenery.

What We Liked About Alaska

Because it rained the first couple of days and because this isn't the type of thing we normally do, we were warming up to the experience slowly. Then as we looked around and were able to soak in the majestic force of nature's kaleidescope, it began to dawn on us how lucky we were to be there.

What We'll Remember About Alaska

Although we weren't queasy on the boat, we found ourselves 'rocking' by the following Monday, and realized that our stabilizers had been a little off. Like so many great things we've done in our life, the memories of Alaska will offer themselves up to us for years to come.
